The MBTI® in action issue
Well, they say March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb, but never did I expect these last few months in Spring to look like they have. Between the volcanic ash clouds, the rollercoaster ride of the parliamentary elections, turmoil in financial markets and the threat of devastating pollution in the Mexican Gulf, it’s clear that there is much we cannot control and much where our personal influence is limited. So what can we influence? As practitioners, we are in a unique position to increase the self-awareness of the individuals and leaders that we work with. More self-aware leaders make for stronger teams and organisations. Self-awareness contributes to better decisions both in businesses and on the global political stage.
This issue is full of development opportunities to build your skills in growing the self-awareness in those you work with. Whether it be the MBTI type and innovation webinar on 10 June or Jean Kummerow’s sessions in July on taking MBTI sessions deeper using the Step II assessment, we bring you both virtual and face-to-face opportunities to meet and to learn. And if you’re really into psychometrics, make sure you have a look through the review of Johnathan Passmore’s book Psychometrics in Coaching. It's well worth the read, particularly the chapters on the FIRO-B® and MBTI instruments.
Enjoy!

Psychometrics in action: Part 1 of a three-part series
MBTI and decision-making
Several customers have asked us to share more insights on the practical aspects of our psychometric tools. This three-part series on ‘psychometrics in action’ highlights some of the key areas where we see immediate effects in the workplace from using psychometrics.
Following feedback from a client’s employee opinion survey, OPP was asked to work with a senior leadership team within a consultancy company to improve the way they operate. The team’s specific objectives were to enhance trust and communication between team members, facilitate understanding of behavioural differences, address any competitive tension and ensure the consistency in the messages shared with the rest of the organisation.

Psychometrics in Coaching: Using Psychological and Psychometric Tools for Development, by Johnathan Passmore
Reviewed by Rob Hepworth, OPP Senior Consultant
No recommended list of coaching publications would be complete without a book on the benefits of applying psychometric tools to coaching. In this book, Passmore has successfully managed to pull together the contributions of a wide range of authors and experienced psychometric practitioners to create a handy reference guide. It's doubtful that the book has been written in the expectation that it will be read from start to finish. Rather, each chapter focuses on a specific psychometric instrument, and its application to coaching, allowing the reader to pick and choose the chapters most relevant to them.
