Resources - norm tables and data supplements

Overview

When using any psychometric test, the use of local norms is almost always the best solution. This may be particularly the case for the ABLE Series, where the tests are specifically targeted on skills, not on educational levels or age groups. We would, therefore, encourage you to use your own local data wherever possible. Sometimes, however, it is not possible or realistic to collect local norm data. This ABLE Norms Update presents a range of norm tables based on specific occupational samples; in line with the background assumptions presented in the original Manual & User's Guide, general norm tables based on educational level have not been compiled.

The first four ABLE tests were published in late 1996 with further exercises being added at a rate of two to three a year since then. As a result, more data has been collected, and more norm samples are available, on some exercises than on others.

If you have results available on a large sample of people, OPP will be happy to produce for you your own local norm table. To discuss this service please email Paul Deakin, Innovation at paul.deakin@opp.eu.com. With your permission, this data will be used, anonymously, in future technical updates. Production of the current update would not have been possible without the help of the individuals and organisations who have provided normative data.

This update contains:

  • a step by step guide on how to use the norm tables.
  • a section on each ABLE exercise, including
    • a graphical display of the distribution of scores for each group, to allow quick comparison, and
    • a T-score and a percentile norm table for each of the available norm groups.
